We had so much fun doing our Countdown to Kickoff series last season that we decided to do it again.  If case you’re new to the series, we’ll do a roster preview as we count down the days until the Chicago Bears September 7th season opener against the Buffalo Bills.

95 days left until Bears season opener and I sure need it, I decided to become a hockey fan this year and that was all grand, until watching the Chicago Blackhawks lose in overtime in Game 7 against the L.A. Kings.

So this is our second round guy, player #95-Ego Ferguson Jr. I think the Bears made a good choice on this guy, as he played in the best division in college football, SEC. He left LSU early to join the NFL draft. The Bears selected him 51st overall.

He’s the kind of player that opposing teams have to plan for. He sometimes gets double teamed, (a real football compliment,) but doesn’t do well when he is. We have to be able to stop the run better than last season, period. I believe Ego can help with this. Even if it’s just being a solid rotation until he can get the hang of the speed of the NFL.

Could this be the next Tommie Harris for the Bears? The good Tommie or the bad one? Is he going to be out of the league in a few years and wish he had finished college at LSU?

Here’s some tape on this guy:

He can not only stop the run, but he can get after the QB. At 6’3″ and 315 lbs, he moves surprisingly fast. Competition in camp will reveal more.

I have a lot of confidence in both Emery and Trestman’s draft choices. So far, so good. Even Shea McClellin might end up excelling at LB, even though he was considered a bust at DE. Knocking Aaron Rodgers out for half the season may have saved his career.

I think our D is gonna be what we are expecting from Chicago this year, dominating and disruptive. Last year we got run over like a skinny meth-head at an all-you-can-eat buffet.

Be on the lookout for our Countdown to Kickoff series as we continue to work our way to the season opener on September 7th.
