We had so much fun doing our Countdown to Kickoff series last season that we decided to do it again. In case you’re new to the series, we’ll do a roster preview as we count down the days until the Chicago Bears September 7th season opener against the Buffalo Bills.
69 More days until life begins. A fresh season. Every team has a chance. All football fans are excited because each team has a shot. Gatherings of people, eating, drinking, laughing, screaming, body and face painting, fighting, betting and crying.
I can’t wait.
The Bears biggest surprise in free agency was Jared Allen. The new #69, (the most sought after number in sports, for obvious reasons) is Jared Allen. I have spent some time hating this dude. Him and that stupid mullet. Now I’m thinking of growing one. I also used to hate his “rope the calf” sack celebration. Now when I see it, it’s not gonna be Jay Cutler on the ground. Hallelujah.
We’ve faced this guy twice a year, for the last 6 years. He was with the Vikings and he made things difficult for us. Now he’s on our side. And I think he’ll play extra hard against the NFC north.
Plenty left in the tank. In 2012, he came a 1/2 sack short of tying the all-time record. He’s also pretty durable, I haven’t seen him injured a whole lot.
He’ll be retiring in 3-5 years, most likely. I believe he decided on the Bears out of all the interested teams because he knows he can get his hands on a Lombardi trophy in that time.
I also believe he will raise the level of everyone on our team, the way that our dearly departed Brian Urlacher did.
Now we have an offense. Lookout 31 other teams.
Here comes trouble.
