Tempers flared as Jordan Mills and Lamarr Houston mixed it up and had to be separated.  These two have a history of bad blood that goes back to OTA’s.  Jay Cutler played peacekeeper, talking to Mills while Lamarr Houston got a talking to from Phil Emery and defensive line coach Paul Pasqualoni.  After practice, head coach Marc Trestman described the incident:

More from Chicago Bears News

"“We know that there are times in practice where a player might lose his mind,” Trestman said. “The bottom line though when we talk about it in meetings is that fighting is a disciplinary issue. If we’re practicing like it’s a game, we would have lost both players today. Not only that, it’s a major safety issue. I think the guys involved are remorseful about it. They don’t want it to happen and they know how it hurts the football team. The thing that you like to see is that it didn’t linger. The team got back to work. There were no other altercations. … And overall when you’ve got 99 percent of your practice that’s cooperative with this kind of intensity out here it’s a good thing. But one play can hurt a football team. And that’s how we sell it to each and every guy.”"

Defensive end Willie Young didn’t finish practice after the skirmish, another minor quad injury, although some speculate that it could have been disciplinary.

The pads go on tomorrow, when the action really amps up.
