Chicago Bears Top 100: #42 Jim Osborne
The dog days of the offseason are finally behind us now that training camp is underway, just in time for our countdown of the Top 100 Chicago Bears of all time to really heat up. As we get closer to the season opener, we get closer to naming the #1 Chicago Bear of all time.
Number 42 in our Top 100 Chicago Bears countdown is defensive tackle Jim Osborne. Osborne was a 7th round selection of the Bears in the 1972 draft out of Southern University. The 6-3 250 was one of the most disruptive defensive tackles in team history. Even though the NFL did not record the sack statistic until 1982, Osborne ranks fourth on the team’s sack list with 81 (unofficial) sacks including a 15 sack season in 1976.

Osborne appeared in 186 games across his 13 seasons, all with the Chicago Bears. That’s good to rank tied for 6th on the all time list of most games played as a Chicago Bear. Osborne retired after the 1984 season, one season before the magical Super Bowl season in 1985.
What do you think of the ranking? Too high? Too low? I guess you’ll have to check back to see who finished ahead of him to judge for yourself. We’ll be counting down a different person each day as we inch our way to the September 7th season opener.
