Look, I definitely don’t expect Ryan Mundy to be an all-pro this season, but I do expect there to be marked improvement from the safety position. Mundy has always been a solid tackler, and given the atrocious safety play last year, that’s probably the best news on Earth for us Bears fans. With Mundy likely starting at free safety, the question is who will he be paired with at strong safety? Will it be rookie Brock Vereen? Will it be Danny McCray? (who has been taking reps with the number one’s) Or possibly veteran Adrian Wilson, who, when healthy, is a pro-bowl caliber player. We’ll soon be getting to heart of training camp, and these questions will be answered soon. This past offseason, the Bears brought in five new safeties, along with the two that were already on the roster (Craig Steltz and Chris Conte) to compete for starting jobs. Competition breeds excellence, right? We’ll see. But, I do expect Mundy to be a starter come week one.
