We had so much fun doing our Countdown to Kickoff series last season that we decided to do it again. In case you’re new to the series, we’ll do a roster preview as we count down the days until the Chicago Bears September 7th season opener against the Buffalo Bills.

So 5 days left until the season kicks off.

Our number 5 is a Hall of Famer by the name of George McAfee. He played for the Bears during our 40s championship years, less some time in the Navy.

He was a versatile player and was dangerous all over the field.

His official position was halfback. He returned kicks, punts, received as well. I guess he also covered on defense because he intercepted passes.

Those guys must have got tired playing both sides of the ball. My hat goes off to them.

This will be my last Countdown to Kickoff assignment and that means we are almost home free. I will be watching our rival Packers go into Seattle and lose Thursday night too. On Sunday our guys take the home field against the Bills.

Please God, let us be awesome.
