A Chicago Bears Fan’s Take on the Loss to the Lions

My son, sleeping it off

This is my three-year-old, Robbie. He is the best thing in my life right now. He is too young to feel the pain that his Daddy’s team is putting him through.

He had had enough and conked out on the way back to the hotel. I think I’ve had enough too.

Final score Lions 34, Bears 17

Approximately 6 hours ago, I was in my friend Doug Hatch’s Mom’s living room, doing a little dance because the Bears started strong and actually looked like they were going to pull off an upset against the our division rivals and perennial Thanksgiving team, the Detroit Lions.

At one point is was 14-3 Bears.

It didn’t exactly continue that way.

The Lions scored 21 unanswered points and our Chicago Bears are all but finished, barring a miracle, this season.

It was a mix of good and bad feelings for me. On the one hand, I was in town to see my good buddy, Doug, get married and watch our team together just like we used to, (that’s how we became friends 4 years ago.)

On the other hand, I was seeing the culmination of everything bad about our team being displayed in the homes of millions, on a day which we are supposed to be thankful.

I kept hope during the game as long as I could, though Doug gave out much earlier. That may have had to do with his bachelor party which had him out until 5:30 AM.

I just don’t know what goes on in Marc Trestman’s mind. The first drive was a thing of beauty. Something in that dude tells him when things are going well that he should screw it up and start calling these screen passes for no gain or a loss of yards.

My mind is made up, and I can’t sugar-coat it.

He just flat out sucks.

I don’t think it is a lack of leadership on this team, it’s a complete loss of confidence in the coach. Once there’s that, you can only move forward by firing him.

Even at halftime, I thought they could get back in it. I joked about Mike Ditka being there in the locker room, giving Trestman a wedgie, telling him to sit down and shut-up, and that he’s got this.

Ditka rallies the team with a great, inspiring speech, and they go on to win the game.

Then I came back down to Earth, and the Chicago Bears played like they had no fire, no sense of urgency, and I can’t do a damn thing about it.

It kills me.

I am thankful that I am an Ohio State Buckeyes fan.

Yeah, we can spend the rest of our season playing spoiler to potential playoff teams, but I’d rather be vying for playoff seeding instead.

Game planning and play calling are non-existent. Half-time adjustments are terrible, except last week, where the only direction to go was better.

I brought my laptop on this long weekend so that I could write for our readers and this is what I have to write about?

I’m at the Marriott Courtyard and the hotel is OK, yet management is too scared to make the hot tub hot.

That’s what’s wrong with our team, and that’s whats wrong with this hotel………….

No Balls.

Where is Tony Montana when you need him?

P.S. Teresa Hatch opened her home to my family and prepared a wonderful meal for us and we are thankful from the bottom of our heart. At one point, there were several grown adults walking around looking for my son’s toy that was lost. That is love in it’s truest form, and teaches me that despite what I think, there are things more important than football.

God Bless and Happy Thanksgiving!

P.S. II   We never did find “Saturn.” If anyone finds it, give it back, please.
