Chicago Bears News: Bleak Future and More

Good morning Bears’ fans, and welcome to the latest installment of Bear Dawn. It’s time to kick off your Holiday weekend and check out the latest Chicago Bears news for Friday July 3, 2015.

I hate to open the Holiday weekend with news of a bleak future, but ESPN Insider looked at their Future Power Rankings [ESPN Insider access required] and the Bears didn’t fare well at all.  They were ranked 25th out of 32 NFL teams and last in the NFC North based on what voters thought their outlook was over the next three seasons.  Here’s Mike Sando’s overview:

"The overview: The Bears’ 14-spot fall in the overall rankings was the second-largest drop from one year ago. They moved up three spots to 13th in coaching with the hire of John Fox, but every other category suffered a double-digit dip as voters reassessed where Chicago stood after a disappointing 2014 season. Are the Bears really that much worse off, or was the previous assessment too rosy? It had to be the latter. Few would say Chicago is appreciably worse off in the front office or in its drafting with so little to go on at this point."

The latest Super Bowl odds have the Bears as a 50-1 shot to win the Super Bowl.  CSN Chicago’s Sports Talk Live discussed the long odds:

Have I cheered you up yet?  It’s time to turn that around.

Da Bears Beat looks at new defensive line coach Jay Rodgers and how he might develop the Bears young defensive line.

Da Bears Blog has Three Thoughts as we enter July and I like his first thought:

"#1 Jared Allen may be the key to the 2015 Bears defense. The more I think about this group heading into the season, the more I wonder just what Vic Fangio and John Fox and going to do with Allen. Is he going to have his hand on the ground? Is he going to be a stand-up outside linebacker? If I were the defensive brain trust I would never stop moving Allen around the defensive front and install a singleminded: get the quarterback."

Apparently rookie wide receiver Kevin White is surprised he’s getting comped with free meals.  Just wait until you drop your first pass kid.

Have a great and safe July 4th Holiday weekend and as always…
