The Chicago Bears traded up one spot and selected UNC QB Mitchell Trubisky.

Nobody saw this coming.

Just an hour after Adam Schefter tweeted that the Chicago Bears wanted to trade back in the draft, Ryan Pace shocked everyone by paying a hefty price to move up to the second pick and select the man that he feels is the QB of the future- UNC QB Mitchell Trubisky.

Most experts thought the QB that Pace coveted was Deshaun Watson, but clearly Pace wanted Trubisky and decided that the San Francisco 49ers were about to find a trade partner for somebody that wanted Trubisky so the Bears made the move they felt they had to do and snagged the UNC product.

The price was not cheap. The Bears had to send the 49ers their third round pick (67 overall) and their fourth round pick (111) as well as a third round pick in the 2018 draft. All that to move up just one spot in the draft. The Bears felt they had to do it, so they pulled the trigger.

Trubisky rocketed up charts this past season with his accurate arm and quick release. He has a lot of the attributes that NFL teams look for but he’s only done it for one season and his experience is limited. Trubisky also has played much on the big stage. When he did, the results were mixed.

Trubisky took a sack on the game-tying two point conversion in the Sun Bowl against Stanford and finished the game with a couple of interceptions. Against ranked opponents, he played well against ranked Miami throwing for 299 yards with 2 TDs and no INTs in a victory and had a tremendous game against Florida State throwing for over 400 yards with 3 TDs leading UNC to victory. However, against Georgia and Virginia Tech (both losses), Trubisky was awful. He threw for a  combined 198 yards on 73 pass attempts and threw two interceptions.

Pace believes he’s found his man. With Mike Glennon on the roster, Trubisky doesn’t have to be thrown to the wolves immediately, but when you give up that much for a quarterback, he’s going to have to be on the field sooner rather than later.
