Perhaps the biggest story of the NFL season so far is the Dallas Cowboys shipping star edge rusher Micah Parsons off to the Green Bay Packers.
It is already paying off for the Packers as their team is currently off to a 2-0 start. However, their red hot start makes us beg the question: What if the Bears traded for Parsons?
Examining the Bears' hesitation in going after Parsons
There's no question the Bears have the draft capital necessary to make a blockbuster trade of this nature happen. Parsons was traded for two first round picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark, per ESPN.
Considering the fact that the Bears boast an abundance of draft capital at their disposal, including two first round picks and a cache of mid-to-late round picks, and solid players like D'Andre Swift or T.J. Edwards, they could have made a similar deal to the one the Packers made.
In hindsight, the Bears made a huge mistake by idly sitting by and not making a move for Parsons. If they made Jerry Jones an offer he couldn't refuse, then the Bears would have their franchise pass rusher for the next decade. Now, they have to play Parsons twice a year instead.
A trade of this nature would have been similar to one the Bears pulled off back in 2018 when they made a blockbuster deal for Khalil Mack. The impact was almost immediate. The Bears made the playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade, Mack was a bona fide defensive player of the year candidate, and almost the entire Bears' starting defense made it to the Pro Bowl that year. Had the Bears made a trade for Parsons, a similar effect could have occurred.
Just two weeks into the season, the Packers are looking like real Super Bowl contenders, marching their way to 2-0 after beating the Detroit Lions and Washington Commanders. They managed to hold both offenses to under 15 points per game. What makes this so impressive is the fact that both of these teams were 10 offenses last season, per StatMuse.

While the Bears didn't land Parsons, there is still optimism that they can find their franchise pass rusher in the upcoming draft.
