Bears Trail Lions 17-14 at Halftime

The Bears trail the Detroit Lions 17-14 at halftime thanks to a lackluster performance by the defense.  The Drew Stanton led Lions have moved the ball easily on the Bears highly touted defense.   Drew Stanton scored a touchdown on a quarterback draw to give the Lions an early 7-0 lead.  The Bears countered with a Chester Taylor TD in another well balanced Mike Martz attack.  Whenever it seemed the Bears were ready to take control of the game, the Lions have made a big play.  The key play so far in the first half was a Jahvid Best run.

With just over a minute to go in the half, Brad Maynard pinned the Lions at their 9 yard line.  It appeared the Lions were content to run out the clock, handing off up the middle to Jahvid Best.  With the inside run bottled up, he burst it outside and took off for 44 yards.  Now into Bears territory, the Lions attacked with a 46 yard touchdown catch, leaving a trail of Bears defenders in his wake.

Some other notes:

  • Nick Roach, who was filling in for Pisa Tinoisamoa, injured his hip.  Rod Wilson is filling in for the depleted Bears linebacking corp.
  • Matt Forte and Chester Taylor are having a nice half, bringing some balance to the Bears offense.
  • Jay Cutler has been steady again.
  • Earl Bennett had a great half, making a few big plays including some key third down conversions.
