If you think we have problems in Chicago, try being a Washington Redskins fan. Your team isn’t winning, you’ve suspended Albert Haynesworth and now you’re bring Sexy Rexy back. ESPN reports that Donovan McNabb is going to be benched this week and ex-Bear Rex Grossman will be the starting QB for the Redskins against the Dallas Cowboys. Rex is their quarterback. But Sexy isn’t going to a Super Bowl this year, as the Redskins are already mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. This moves seems to be an audition for Rex, who has potential to be the Redskins starter next year (to the amazement of all).
The Redskins have an opt out clause in Donovan McNabb’s contract and it looks as if he might not be back next year. If you are a Bears fan, you’ve rode the Sexy Rexy roller coaster and know how inconsistent he is. He had five game with 3+ INTs in the Bears Super Bowl season and seven games with a 100+ QB Rating. So, you may ask, why should Bears fans care what Rex is doing now? I’ll tell ya.
The Redskins face the New York Giants in the final week of the season and currently the Bears have the same record as them at 9-4. The Giants are also tied with the Bears for the #2 seed in the NFC playoffs but the Bears lost to the Giants earlier in the year. If the Giants hold off the Eagles and win the NFC East and the Bears win the NFC North, the Giants hold the tie breaker and would get the first round playoff bye if both teams have the same record. If the Redskins beat the Giants, it could give the Bears the bye, but if bad Rex shows up, he could screw the Bears again.
Now, I know this is looking ahead but I’m going to be rooting for Rex to play well these next few weeks, if he is still the starter. He may finally ‘help’ the Bears in the playoffs unlike he did against the Colts in Super Bowl XLI. Good luck, Sexy Rexy, I can’t wait to see your throwgasms all over the field. Hopefully they will be to Redskins receivers.
