After a flurry of undrafted rookie signings – 26 to be exact – on Day 1 of the Free Agent Frenzy, the Bears moved on to signing their own draft picks on Day 2.
As is customary, the signings occur in reverse draft order. The first two signings as of this writing are the 6th and 5th round picks. Linebacker J.T. Thomas was the first domino to fall into place while 5th round draft pick quarterback Nathan Enderle followed soon after. Enderle has been assigned #10, so you can dust off your PT Willis jerseys while Thomas will wear #52.
Both rookies signed 4 year deals as Bears money man Cliff Stein wasted no time putting the new CBA rules on rookie contracts to practice. Give the Bears credit, they are always among the league leaders in getting their draft picks signed and I expect this year to be no different. Don’t be surprised if Chris Conte, Stephen Paea and Gabe Carimi all ink deals in the next day or two so the Bears can move on to the next phase of signing – Unrestricted Free Agents!
