The Bears opened up the 2011 campaign in Bourbonnais, IL on Saturday with their first practice or any action since the disappointing loss in the NFC Championship game. It was another interesting day since the lockout dam broke.
The Bears re-signed special teams ace Corey Graham. They also added Marion Barber and DT Amobi Okoye. That’s the good news on the Free Agent front. The bad news is that it looks like Olin Kreutz will be parting company with the team over a measly $500k. Yes, seriously.
On the camp front, I know everyone is interested, so here’s a breakdown of how the offensive line took shape on Day 1 of practice:
Left tackle: Frank Omiyale
Left guard: Chris Williams
Center: Roberto Garza
Right guard: Lance Louis
Right tackle: J’Marcus Webb
Edwin Williams was supposed to take reps for Kreutz but he can’t practice until August 4th. If you’re wondering, 1st round pick Gabe Carimi took reps at left tackle with the second team. Mike Tice wants to see how athletic he is before he starts shaking things up too much.
In what is becoming an annual ritual, DT Marcus Harrison showed up out of shape and overweight, failing his physical. It’s about time Mr. Harrison gets a pink slip.
Newest Bears wide receiver Roy Williams thinks he’s playing with a Jackass.
"Roy Williams: “It’s not just me. You still have Devin Hester. You still have little Johnny Knoxville. We have a good group of wide receivers that can get the job done.”"
And that was just the first day of camp. Interested to see what happens next.
