Sometimes the best deals are the ones you don’t make. Take for instance the Bears passing on paying Bernard Berrian back in 2008. He was scooped up by the Vikings for an astonishing 6 year $42 million deal. $42 million for Bernard freaking Berrian??? In his 4 years with the Bears from 2004-2007 he totaled 140 catches for a shade under 2200 yards and 13 touchdowns. He had a respectable first year with the Vikings, picking up 964 yards on 48 catches with 7 TD’s but his production plummeted each year. He was inactive for a couple of games this season and finally let go on Tuesday.
I’m the last guy to stick up for the Bears’ front office, but it sure seems like they made the right move taking a pass on Berrian, especially for that price. Do these guys actually know what they’re doing? OK, maybe I’ve gone too far.
