The Broncos decided to end their season before it began. They either believe Peyton Manning is completely healthy or they don’t particularly value the backup quarterback position. Obviously they didn’t see any game tape on the Bears last season over the last few weeks of the season, otherwise they wouldn’t have signed former Chicago Bears backup quarterback Caleb Hanie to be Manning’s primary backup on a two-year deal.
I’m actually surprised that Hanie is getting a shot to compete for even a backup job after things fell apart so badly for him and the Bears last season. Then again, when your backup was the Mile High Messiah, maybe you’re just used to miracles.
Before signing on with the Bears as an undrafted free agent, Hanie starred at Colorado State, so this will be a bit of a homecoming for the veteran QB.
