Chicago Bears Add Wide Receiver Devin Thomas to 1-year Deal

Just when you thought the Bears were done with free agent acquisitions, the Chicago Bears added another fringe wide receiver and key special teams contributor in former Giant Devin Thomas.

Thomas comes on a 1-year deal to bolster the Bears who already added wide receiver Brandon Marshall at the start of the free agent period via trade and added Eric Weems to bolster special teams and contribute as a wide receiver.  They also added reserve linebacker Blake Costanzo to contribute primarily as a special teamer.

It’s a little surprising that the Bears added another wide receiver and special teamer, but considering the state of their wide receiver group last season and the health of Johnny Knox, I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised.

The Bears scouted Thomas in 2008 and brought him in for a private workout before the Redskins selected him in the second round.  They went on to draft Earl Bennett in the third round that year.  Most recently, Thomas was a key contributor in the New York Giants’ run to another Super Bowl title.

Now when Jay says, “Hey Devin, go stand over there,” Hester will have some company figuring out where he’s going.

Welcome aboard Devin!
