The Bears wrapped up their mandatory three day minicamp on Thursday and with that concluded their offseason program. Not wanting to head into their 6-week break with loose ends, they tied one up on the way out of Halas Hall, asking second year quarterback Nathan Enderle for his playbook.
The most surprising news here is that it took them this long to jettison Mike Martz’s quarterback project. I would have thought he could have carried Martz’s boxes out of Halas Hall on the way out back in January.
The Bears will head to Bourbannais with probably their deepest collection of quarterbacks in recent memory with Jay Cutler set as the starter, Jason Campbell as the backup and Josh McCown as the #3. Undrafted free agent Matt Blanchard out of UW-Whitewater will come to camp as the fourth quarerback, hoping to nab a precious spot on the practice squad or possible to unseat McCown as the #3. Blanchard impressed coaches in rookie minicamp and did enough to have the Bears send Enderle packing.
