Bears Win Dress Rehearsal 20-17….. Hits and Misses

Unlike last week the Bears 2nd and 3rd stringers showed up for the game and finished what the starters couldn’t do and win the game 20-17 in the Meadowlands errr NY Giants home turf. Here is some quick hits about the Bears 2nd win in the pre-season.

– Brandon Marshall is pretty good. I can’t believe how exciting it is to see a real #1 wide receiver wearing a Bears jersey oh yeah and he had a TD!

– J’Marcus Webb played terrible.  He is going to put someone else put in a bad situation again because he misses blocks!

– The Bears running game was bad! Matt Forte had two good runs at the start of the third quarter….he had no chance on his first half runs due to bad blocking

– The Bears run defense was a major disappointment.  They made rookie David Wilson look like a lock for the Hall of Fame!

– The 4th quarter defensive unit showed a lot of resiliency by stopping and intercepting the Giants twice (one was reversed for a really bogus roughing the QB call) those guys were working hard and it paid off with an INT in the end zone

-the first series of the third quarter was very exciting with a sense of urgency. It ended with 3 points but the lackluster first half was changed with a very effective first drive that put points on the board.

– Jason Campbell is the king of check downs. He was 12-19 but every completion was a 2 yarder to the running back. He still is a major upgrade from Caleb Hanie

– Tom Coughlin has two Super Bowl rings yet he is a lunatic on the sidelines! I think its safe to say he doesn’t like any ref let alone a replacement team.

– No major injuries!!!!!!!!!!!!

– Brandon Marshall is really good!!!!!!!

The Bears won but the first string lines looked really suspect.  It’s only the third pre-season game and there wasn’t a real game plan, but the Bears have work to be done if they are to allow me to regain my insane optimism that I had a few weeks ago about this season! It looks like GM Phil Emery did an outstanding job this off season with the exception of addressing the offensive line especially left tackle. Only one more fake game left before these games count!! Some hits out there but way too many misses!
