Knowing what the Chicago Bears is up to is one thing, but knowing the competition is another. Get a leg up by reading about the recent news on the competition in the NFC North. And what does all the news mean for the Bears? Well, I’ll tell you…

Detroit Lions

Lions upgraded their offensive line with veteran lineman Leroy Harris and Jake Scott.  More veterans for the Lions offensive line will probably make it harder for the Bears defensive lineman to get to him

The Lions also added WR Michael Spurlock, a receiver that hasn’t really proved to catch more than 250 yards during a season. They’re obviously trying to fill the offensive production of troublemaker Titus Young, but I don’t see Spurlock making a dent.

Even though this doesn’t exactly pertain to the current state of the Lions, it was reported that the Lions were interested in Cortland Finnegan during his free agency period but couldn’t compete with the Rams offer. Well that could have been a deadly backfield.

Green Bay Packers

The Pack have officially signed the former Alabama running back Eddie Lacy this week. This is just another step to getting Lacy closer to being up to speed on things.

Running back DuJuan Harris had a ‘fist-sized cyst’ removed from his lung, which I guess it sounds a lot worse than it actually is. He should be good to go by the season though.

My favorite thing out of Green Bay this week was this quote from James Jones,” I don’t like Greg (Jennings) no more. He left us.” Lolz. New bad blood between very old rivals. I love the sophistication.

Minnesota Vikings

Tom Pelissero, via Twitter, has reported that first-round draft pick Cordarelle Patterson has had great reps and even got first reps on kick return. Obviously, something that Bears special teams should be watching out for. Patterson was a general wildcard coming into the draft, and yet we haven’t really seen what he’s capable of.

Notable linebacker Chad Greenway had a knee scope surgery this week, but he should be back by training camp. Shouldn’t be a problem, although I wish it would be.

Anddd backup quarterback Matt Cassell threw consecutive interceptions in mini camp. Sorry, I had to put that one in.
