We decided to do a countdown to the Chicago Bears season opener on September 8th versus the Cincinnati Bengals.  Thanks to one of our Twitter followers, we decided to combine the countdown with a roster preview of sorts.

We’re 25 days (and an injured hamstring away) from the start oft he Chicago Bears season.  Let’s get to know the current #25 on the Bears roster, Armando Allen.

Allen played his college football at Notre Dame and was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent in 2011.  He was cut in final cutdowns and the Bears scooped him up for their practice squad.  He spent the bulk of the 2011 season on the Bears practice squad, but injuries to Matt Forte and Marian Barber gave Allen the opportunity to make his debut versus the Packers on Christmas day.

Allen saw spot duty with the Bears in 2012 as the third running back, beating out Kahlil Bell late in training camp.  He could be on the wrong end of the battle this season.  A hamstring injury could prove really costly, as undrafted free agent Michael Ford could push for the third running back spot.

Other notable 25’s in recent Bears history include Garrett Wolf, Brad “the Colonel” Muster and ’85 holdout Todd Bell.

We’re just 25 days away.  Are you ready???
