There were no big surprises on the first wave of cuts that the Bears made on Sunday.  They have to trim their roster to 75 players by Tuesday afternoon, but wanted to give guys a chance to catch on elsewhere.

Here’s the official list from the Bears press release:

           PLAYER                              POS                    UNIVERSITY

Devin Aromashodu                  WR                     Auburn

Curtis Brinkley

RB                      Syracuse

Eric Foster

DT                      Rutgers

A.J. Lindeman

T                       Toledo

P.J. Lonergan

C                       Louisiana State

Derrick Martin

S                       Wyoming

Kyle Moore

DE                      Southern California

Gabe Miller

TE                      Oregon State

Leonard Pope                          TE                      Georgia

Brent Russell

DT                      Georgia Southern

Patrick Trahan                         LB                      Mississippi

Tress Way

P                       Oklahoma

Lawrence Wilson                     LB                      Connecticut

Tom Zbikowski

S                       Notre Dame

I had high hopes for the local kid Tommy  Zbikowski, but he was caught in a logjam at safety.  With his experience, you can expect him to catch on somewhere.  Other veterans like DE Kyle Moore and TE Leonard Pope were sent packing as well.  Devin Aromashodu’s comeback bid fell short as well.

The Bears roster currently stands at 76, so one more player needs to go before the deadline.  Could it be J’Marcus Webb?  Did Fendi Onobun let his chance to catch on with another NFL team slip through his fingers?  Stay tuned for the next cut.  The serious cuts happen after the last preseason game, when the Bears will have to cut down to 53 players and then set their 8 man practice squad.
