The Bears held a media session today and I’ve compiled a few tweets to keep you informed about what’s going on:
Mel Tucker:
"#Bears DC Tucker on #Steelers 31st ranked offense “you can take those numbers & throw ’em out the field”— Peggy Kusinski (@peggykusinski) September 18, 2013"
"#Bears DC Tucker praised Peppers as a student of the game says they talk on & off the field all the time— Peggy Kusinski (@peggykusinski) September 18, 2013"
Tucker also commented on a need for the Bears to tackle better… as if everyone and their dog didn’t know that already, but at least they aren’t pretending it’s not a problem.
Marc Trestman:
"LM: Trestman calls Steelers’ Ben Roethlisberger a “Hall of Fame-caliber quarterback.”— Chicago Bears (@ChicagoBears) September 18, 2013"
"LM: Trestman: “I came here as a Devin Hester fan. I’ve been watching him for years.” — Chicago Bears (@ChicagoBears) September 18, 2013"
"LM: #Bears coach Marc Trestman: “We’re all excited to go on the road and find out more about our football team.” — Chicago Bears (@ChicagoBears) September 18, 2013"
"LM: Trestman says Roethlisberger has “ability to extend plays like no other quarterback to my recollection.”— Chicago Bears (@ChicagoBears) September 18, 2013"
"LM: Trestman on #Bears‘ 2-0 record: “We’re very tempered. We’re not going to get caught up in the hype …”— Chicago Bears (@ChicagoBears) September 18, 2013"
"Trestman: “There’s nothing like going against the Steeler 34.” …says it’s a conceptually, structurally good defense.— Rich Campbell (@Rich_Campbell) September 18, 2013"
High praises for Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers’ Defense. Nothing Earth-shattering here, just a little something I like to call “Treasure Talk” (the opposite of “Trash Talk”) to be sure to minimize bulletin board material for the other team
Joe DeCamillis:
Bears ST coord. Joe DeCamillis on Weems' attempt to scoop punt at 1: "Everyone talks about those returns? I’m more happy about that play."
— Rich Campbell (@Rich_Campbell) September 18, 2013
More Joe D on Weems: "...because that means that he’s paying attention to the rule, he understands it, and it worked out to us."
— Rich Campbell (@Rich_Campbell) September 18, 2013
Joe D: I call it ‘no consequence’ b/c once they touch the ball as the kicking team on the punt, that’s basically a free ball for us.
— Rich Campbell (@Rich_Campbell) September 18, 2013
That was a great, heads-up play by Eric Weems, wasn’t it?
Various Players:
LM: Matt Forte on #Bears coach Marc Trestman: "He's a genius in his offense."
— Chicago Bears (@ChicagoBears) September 18, 2013
LM: Matt Forte on playbook: "We haven't really shown a whole lot. We have a lot of stuff saved for teams that play certain fronts."
— Chicago Bears (@ChicagoBears) September 18, 2013
Matt Forte says he prepared for specific plays in the #Bears offense by watching Charlie Garner run the plays in the Raiders offense.
— Zach Zaidman (@ZachZaidman) September 18, 2013
LM: Matt Forte says Devin Hester is playing faster because he's not tired from playing offense.
— Chicago Bears (@ChicagoBears) September 18, 2013
Matt Forte says that Devin Hester is playing "faster" this year. Says it helps he doesn't have to worry about offense. #Bears
— Adam Jahns (@adamjahns) September 18, 2013
Julius Peppers: "I’m feeling fine. I'm not interested in talking about the first 2 weeks right now. My focus is on Pittsburgh."
— Tom Musick (@tcmusick) September 18, 2013
Devin Hester on why he had success last week: "It was just opportunities. I can't remember a game where I had 5 returns."
— Zach Zaidman (@ZachZaidman) September 18, 2013
Peppers on pass rush: "This week it's going to be improved. I'm not interested in talking about anything from last week."
— Zach Zaidman (@ZachZaidman) September 18, 2013
LM: #Bears CB Charles Tillman (knee) did not practice today; G Kyle Long (back) and TE Martellus Bennett (shoulder) were limited.
— Chicago Bears (@ChicagoBears) September 18, 2013
It’s good to hear some fiery talk from Julius Peppers, but I’ll be happier when I see it on Sunday. There was some worried chatter in the morning about Tillman missing practice, but it sounds like it was just a precautionary measure. All in all, it was a good day; some good, very little bad. Any thoughts Bears fans?
