Fantasy Football Week 5: Start’em / Sit’em

4 of 4

WR:

Cecil Shorts @STL (57%, 12): Nothing against Shorts, but Blaine Gabbert is a bum. Shorts is leading the league in targets, but the number of targets isn’t important when the ball un-catchable. Justin Blackmon’s return this week might take some defensive attention away from Shorts, but he will also get some of Shorts’ targets. I just don’t feel comfortable playing Shorts while Blaine Gabbert is involved.

Mike Wallace BAL (52%, 11): Wallace has had 1 good game this year (week 2) after complaining about targets in week 1. He’s been a non-factor in every other week and hasn’t broke 25 yards in those games! So after 4 games he has had zero fantasy value in 3 of them. No thanks.

Stevie Johnson @CLE (44%, 10): Through 4 weeks, no #1 WR has cracked 100 yards or found the end zone against Browns all-pro CB, Joe Haden. Haden hasn’t been playing bums either; AJ Green, Torrey Smith, & Mike Wallace all struggled against Haden and I think Stevie J will as well.

TE:

Vernon Davis HOU (72%, 9): He’s questionable, Kaepernick has been shaky, and they are playing against the Texans defense which has allowed the 2nd fewest points to opposing TEs. There are better options out there. I would rather start Fleener, Bennett or Olsen who are all being started in fewer leagues than Davis.

Bust:

Phil Sears-USA TODAY Sports

Reggie Wayne SEA (86%, 12): Wayne finally got his first 100 yard game of the season in week 4. The Colts focus on running the ball has hurt Wayne’s value this season, but he’s still been solid. This week he has a tough match-up with Seattle’s Richard Sherman and I think he will end up struggling. Wayne should still get a few catches and end up with close to 10 points, but if you have a better option use it.
