FALLING

Jay Cutler

Cutler is a pretty obvious choice this week.  The Bears quarterback suffered a torn groin during Sunday’s loss to the Redskins and is expected to be out for at least four weeks.  If Cutler struggles to get back on the field and return to form, it will be extremely difficult for General Manager Phil Emery and the Bears to justify giving him a big contract.  Instead, they will need to seriously evaluate the available quarterback talent around the league and especially in next year’s draft class.  At the most, the Bears should franchise tag Cutler to buy themselves some more time.

Major Wright

It’s not entirely Wright’s fault that he’s part of one of the worst safety duos in the league, but it’s at least half is fault — right?  Pro Football Focus rated Wright a -3.8 for Sunday’s game and noted how he struggled in both the run and the pass.  He has consistently looked lost on the field and has had an especially difficult time in deep zone coverage.  As injuries continue to pile up and the defense continues to struggle each week, the Bears may need to clean house a bit heading into next year, and Wright could very well be one of the first casualties.

Charles Tillman

At the beginning of the season, I would have never predicted that Tillman would ever be mentioned in the Falling category of this list.  But after very awkwardly missing a sure-thing interception in the end zone and leaving the game early with an injury, Tillman’s age is really beginning to show.  He did luck himself into an interception, but otherwise had one of the weaker games of his career.  Tillman is quickly entering Brian Urlacher territory.
