It’s hard to give a game ball when the Bears played poorly in a game that was a must win. The Bears left points on the board and were one our four in red zone opportunities. The special teams were nothing special as they didn’t make any major mistakes. The defense did (somewhat) hold the Lions in check but didn’t make enough plays in the end.

Just like Shea McClellin, the 4th Phase game ball winner last week, Chris Conte has often been the recipient of harsh criticism. He even mentioned on Comcast Sports Net that he even deleted his Twitter account because of the criticism. Conte and Wright played well last season but with the lack of pressure from the front four this season, the safety play has been exposed both in run support and in through the air.

Conte seemingly whiffed on a 39 yard scamper from Reggie Bush that led to Lions touchdown. Conte did intercept an overthrown Matthew Stafford pass in the 4th quarter and returned it for 35 yards to the Lions 9. Unfortunately, the Bears couldn’t come away with the go-ahead score.

Just like McClellin, I hope that Conte can take good from this and progress as the Bears make a push for the playoffs.
