A Fan’s Non-expert take on Bears Week 10 Loss to Lions

I thought at any time Lovie Smith was gonna peel off the Marc Trestman mask just like in Mission Impossible. Make sense doesn’t it? Defense improves while poor decision-making on offense takes a winnable game and turns it in to a loss.
What the hell was Trestman so relaxed about? This isn’t Canada where the clock stops after every play. I like Marc Trestman for the most part, but I don’t know if he was aware of how important this game was. If he did, he would have played Josh McCown. Jay Cutler was clearly not 100%. Not even in the beginning of the game. He let his quarterback do his job for him. If Jay doesn’t get a new contract, this game will be partly why.
Do you remember in Rocky IV when Apollo Creed was taking a beating from Ivan Drago and told Rocky not to throw in the towel? He said, “I want you to promise me you’re not gonna stop this fight, no matter what. No matter what!” Well let’s just say, Marc Trestman should have learned from Rocky’s mistake.
I have a message to anybody that had an issue with Jay Cutler after the injury in the NFC Championship game. The ones that said he was weak, said he wasn’t a leader. This is a by-product of that game and the negative attention in the media by the fans and other players about Jay Cutler’s toughness. He was injured yesterday, stayed in the game, and probably cost us a visit to the playoffs this year. I hope you’re happy. Is he tough enough now?
Why was it so quiet in Soldier Field? I thought I was watching golf. Home field is supposed to be an advantage. I remember a better reception at the “Music City Massacre” last season in Tennessee. I made more noise in my living room, and I was alone. If there was a time for the fans to rise up, this was it. Now it’s over.
Am I saying we won’t make the playoffs? No, not yet, I don’t give up that easy. The Pack lost too and I’m hoping they’ll go in too deep of a hole to get out of. Now we have to win most of our games and need the Lions to drop some. I’d rather just worry about winning ours.
Josh McCown couldn’t get in to the swing of things at the end of the game. Not his fault. He should have been in there already. This loss is on Trestman. Yesterday, by the third quarter, I started not liking Coach’s face. It’s the same face I didn’t like in Lovie. “Stand back and observe while the football genius throws away your season!” That face. “Oh well, I guess that played out differently on the chalkboard.” I’ve seen people show more attentiveness while fly-fishing.
I’m just venting right now, I had a lot further to fall after our Bears beat the Packers in Lambeau. I still feel good about some things that get cloudy after such a disappointing loss. Moving forward, we do have some great weapons on offense. Seems like we are adjusting to the changes in the NFL. People like seeing touchdowns more than they like goal line stands. They like seeing interceptions and fumbles recovered. They like to see 100 combined points scored in a shootout. Ray Lewis and Brian Urlacher have retired. 4000 yards passing is not such a big deal anymore.
Last Monday was our biggest and most important win, yesterday, our biggest and most important loss. I’m bummed out, I didn’t want to write about a loss by our Beloved. It actually hurt to watch the game. I might have to watch my recording of the win over the Packers just to feel better. Urlacher not being there has manifested itself in more ways than just defense. I miss seeing him on the field. He is the kind of guy you want in your foxhole. I actually liked his face.
P.S. Mama Bear, I only have 250 texts and I love you more than ever, Papa Bear
