Let me just kill all the noise first. Josh McCown is not replacing Jay Cutler as the Bears starting quarterback. McCown is the backup, Cutler is the starter. McCown doesn’t make any mistakes and plays a smart game but in a game where everything was on the line, if Cutler can go, I’m giving the ball to Jay.
McCown’s solid play allows the Bears to rest Cutler until he’s 100 percent. I agreed with coaching staff when they allowed Cutler to start the game against the Lions. I didn’t agree when they kept Cutler in the game when it was clear that he was getting banged up and couldn’t move.
With yesterday’s win, the Bears pull into first place with the Lions, despite the Lions owning the tiebreaker after the regular season sweep. McCown finished with a passer rating of 92.4, one touchdown and most importantly, no turnovers. It was McCown’s 43 yard strike to Martellus Bennett in overtime that helped sealed the game.
What do you think Bears fans? Who gets your Week 11 Game Ball?
