FALLING

Tony Fiammetta

It’s not often a fullback in the NFL has a noticeably bad game.  But on Sunday, Fiammetta did just that with two crucial penalties that cost the Bears at key moments.  The Bears have gone through a few different fullbacks over the past few years, so the likelihood of them keeping Fiammetta was slim to begin with.  He’ll have to rebound this weekend against Minnesota and string together a couple of solid games to keep his name from being mentioned again.

Craig Steltz

Like Fiammetta, Steltz came up with a costly penalty at a crucial time in the game — this one costing the Bears a sure touchdown (and as Boomer pointed out in his Report Card, the holding penalties have been an issue all season). The Bears safeties have played terribly this season, yet Steltz has failed to usurp Major Wright or Chris Conte at either starting position.  Steltz has played his entire career with the Bears and was a cog on their once-strong special teams unit, but now he may find himself without a home and with a deteriorating resume to show for his tenure in Chicago.

Major Wright

Wright gets a mention in the stock watch nearly every week.  He simply has no value for the Bears at this point and there is absolutely no reason why the team should re-sign him this offseason.  Wright should be auditioning for a new contract.  He should be taking his game to the next level.  And the Bears should be very thankful when they don’t have to see No. 21 laying on the ground after missed tackles and blown assignments.
