This is an easy choice, isn’t it? Josh McCown led the Bears to victory with a 4 touchdown passes, 1 rushing touchdown and 348 yards through the air. With the win, it puts the Bears in a tie with the Lions for division lead, despite losing the tie breaker.

With every McCown victory and the more games Jay Cutler misses, the louder the chants get from fans who want McCown to unseat Cutler as the starter. Despite all this, Marc Trestman and every single player in the Bears locker room knows who the starter is… it’s Cutler.  So please, lets not get this twisted.

While I think it’s important we should all support McCown and deservedly so, while he’s filling in for Cutler, I think some fans need to know and come to grips with Cutler as the starting quarterback. The long term future of the franchise rests with Cutler. For those who think the Bears should let Cutler in favor of McCown, well, I don’t really know what to say for or about you but you will probably turn on Cutler similar to how fans turned on Rex Grossman and booed him out of the city. I hope I’m wrong but given the history of our quarterback carousel and fans not knowing what they have in front of them, I wouldn’t be surprised.

Based on what Phil Emery and Trestman say, it seems like they’ve made up their mind about the quarterback situation. They will probably sign Cutler to a long term deal and call it a day. Ideally, it would be money well spent to keep McCown as a backup, if McCown is willing.
