Fantasy Football Week 16: Waivers

1 of 2

If your reading this article then your still alive in the fantasy playoffs. Good for you. I’m down to two teams out of eight leagues. Not my best year, but I made the playoffs in 7 of 8 leagues so I can’t complain. Anything can happen once you reach the playoffs as anyone who lost to a team that started Greg Jennings (28), Matt Asiata (26), Jordan Todman (18), or Trent Richardson (18) will tell you. It usually takes a little luck to win the Shiva, so roll the dice with one of my waiver recommendations below and maybe you’ll get lucky with the next Matt Asiata.

* I’ve only listed players owned in less than 60% of Yahoo leagues.

QB

Jay Cutler (47%): Looked a little rusty in his first game back from injury but still finished with 3 passing TDs. The Bears have a glut of weapons on offense (Jeffery, Marshall, Forte) and two favorable match-ups to end the season (Philly, GB). If he’s available in your league, do whatever you can to get him.

Max FAAB: whatever you have left

Ryan Tannehill (31%): Thrown for over 300 yards in three of the last four games and has 6 TDs to 1 INT in last two. Tannehill has turned into a pretty good QB and has decent match-ups the next two weeks (Bills, Jets).

Max FAAB: $15

RB

Andre Ellington (58%): This guy has been on my waivers list all year. Apparently I like him more than most and living in AZ I’ve watched most of his games this year. He’s a legit talent and while he might lose goal-line carries to Mendenhall, he’s the Cards best weapon between the 20’s. They are in the thick the playoff hunt and I think Ellington will see the bulk of the touches the next two weeks in must win games for the Cardinals. He’s averaging 3 catches per game over the last two which is a nice PPR bonus.

Jordan Todman (19%): He made a good impression in his first start for the injured MJD last week. It’s unknown whether MJD is going to play this week, but if you have a roster spot it’s a good idea to stash Todman. He had 109 yards rushing last week and just missed adding a TD to his fantasy line (fumble at 1). Todman also caught 4 passes for 44 so he can add some PPR value if he gets the start in week 16.

Max FAAB: $20

Dennis Johnson (10%): Ben Tate re-injured his ribs this week and if he’s out then rookie Dennis Johnson will get the start against the Broncos. Johnson has shown some flashes of talent this year and could be a decent flex option if he is the Texans starter the last two weeks.

Max FAAB: $15

Toby Gerhart (30%) / Matt Asiata (7%): Who’s healthy?  If Peterson is playing then neither of these guys are worth a roster spot, but if AP is out then whichever of these guys get the start on the Vikings surprisingly resurgent offense is worth starting next week. If you are a Peterson owner, then you should probably break the bank to get his replacement.
