You probably don’t have to keep reading to know how this turns out.  The Bears defense lived up to their poor performance and the Packers ended up converting a pair of 4th down conversions on their ultimate drive.  Or did they.  Maybe the refs struck again.

The Packers faced a 4th and 1 from their own 22 yard line and John Kuhn got the necessary yardage, but it certainly appeared that a delay of game should have been called.

The Packers certainly wouldn’t have gone for it on 4th and 6 with 4:41 to go and if the Bears offense had gotten the ball back, who knows what would have happened.  But I digress.

Instead, Aaron Rodgers managed to slither away from Julius Peppers and hook up with a wide open Randall Cobb for the game winner with just 38 seconds left in the game.  I’ll never understand how Chris Conte just let Cobb run right past him.

I’m not going to cry about officiating, although it was horrible.  I won’t throw darts at Cutler; he finished the game with a 103.8 passer rating in the game.  This one – and the season – is on the defense.  The Bears ranked 30th in yards per game giving up nearly 395 yards per game; 30th in points per game giving up 29.9 points per game and dead last in run defense allowing 161 yards per game and 5.3 yards per carry.

The Bears earned their 8-8 record.  They missed the playoffs because they lost games to the Washington Redskins, St Louis Rams and Minnesota Vikings; all last place teams.  Which of those games hurts the most?

That’s enough for tonight.  There will be a lot of Bears discussion this week as we wrap the week and the season.  The offseason and all the decisions that need to be made – including what to do with Jay Cutler and all of the other Free Agents – will all be covered in painstaking detail.  Stick with us EVERY DAY.  There will be fresh content here daily throughout the offseason.

Keep your heads up Bears fans and of course…

BEAR DOWN!!!
