Here’s a quick roundup of some Free Agency Rumors for the Chicago Bears as the first day of free agency – legal tampering if you will – has opened.

Darren Sproles to Replace Devin Hester

The Saints cut running back and return man Darren Sproles in a cost cutting move.  The Bears opted not to bring back return specialist Devin Hester.   Put two and two together and it makes a lot of sense.  Dan Pompei think’s he’s a great fit for the Bears and I agree.  I’d love to see Sproles fit into Marc Trestman’s offense.  I’d don’t think you get the return capabilities of Hester, but you get a dynamic change of pace back in return.

Bears Among Teams Showing Interest in Panthers safety Mike Mitchell

The big names in the safety group are Jairus Byrd and TJ Ward.  The Bears might look to zig when everyone zags and go after another player like Mitchell.  Count the Bears among four teams interested in Mitchell.  Mitchell racked up some big numbers in the Panthers’ resurgent defense including four sacks and four interceptions.  He’s just 26, so he’d fit the youth movement and he’s got a nose for the ball.  Sounds like a good fit to me.
