Stay away Lovie! Don’t go reaching for our Peanut! After the Bucs landed the pass rusher that Lovie Smith covets, now they’re going after the premier Cover-2 cornerback in the league, Charles Tillman. Sure, Revis and others might be better cover corners or “shutdown” corners, but Tillman is the ideal cornerback to run Lovie Smith’s Tampa-2 defense.
The Chicago Tribune is reporting that the Buccaneers have legitimate interest in Tillman, who just became a Free Agent.
"The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are interested in acquiring cornerback Charles Tillman and reuniting him with former Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith, two sources with knowledge of the situation told the Tribune on Tuesday."
With the Bucs preparing to move on from Darrelle Revis, they have their sights set on Tillman for a family reunion of sorts. It’s no surprise that Lovie is trying to dump Revis. From the moment he became the Bucs’ head coach, there was rampant speculation about Revis not being a fit for Smith’s defense, but in his usual manner, Lovie played it off.
Now the Bucs are shopping Revis and trying to poach Tillman away from the Bears. Since the Bears are shopping Peppers, whom Lovie brought in as the missing piece to his defense when he was still here in Chicago, how about the Bears trade Peppers for Revis straight up? If only Jerry Angelo were the GM down there, we could get a couple of high draft picks in the deal too.
