Reader’s Mock Draft: San Francisco 49ers are on the Clock
Cornerback: The 49ers secondary has taken a hit in the last few offseasons as not one player from their starting secondary in Super Bowl XLVII remains on the roster. Eric Wright, Tramaine Brock and Chris Cook are the 3 right now that will compete for the starting jobs – not exactly overwhelming talent between these 3.
Wide Receiver: The Boldin re-signing was important, however, Mario Manningham departed for the Giants. This leaves the Niners to very little to no depth at the position. For a team that finished 30th in passing offense, they must upgrade this position and find a playmaker. Boldin is a great possession receiver, but it’s still up in the air if Michael Crabtree is that playmaking #1 WR that was envisioned – just ask Richard Sherman.
Center: With Jonathan Goodwin gone, Daniel Kilgore is the starter. Kilgore adds nice depth to guard, but the jury is out on whether or not he is a starting NFL center.
Safety: I know that they signed Bethea and drafted Eric Reid in the first round last year. However, when you lose 2 pro bowl safeties in 2 years, that is difficult to replace. Bethea will give them 1 good year but not sure how much is left in the tank after that.
