Tuesday is a perfect example of just how fragile an NFL season could be. New Chicago Bears wide receiver Domenik Hixon suffered a torn ACL, the third in the last five seasons. It likely ends his Bears career before it even began. Hixon posted the following message to his Facebook page:
"I tore my ACL today for the 3rd time today! I’m disappointed that I won’t be playing for a bears team that has the players and coaches to WIN the Super Bowl. I thank God for letting me live my dream of playing in the NFL for 8 years plus. It has truly been FUN! #blessed #lovethisgame"
The tone of his message makes it seem like there won’t be another comeback attempt. Hixon was expected to compete for the third or fourth wide receiver position and for a key role on special teams.
The news could be worse for the Bears. The Cowboys’ Sean Lee, a key cog to their defense, appears to have suffered a season-ending knee injury of his own during non-contact drills during Cowboys OTA’s. Like I said, this is an example of just how fragile a season or a career could be. Best of luck to Hixon as he recovers from another difficult injury.
