We had so much fun doing our Countdown to Kickoff series last season that we decided to do it again.  In case you’re new to the series, we’ll do a roster preview as we count down the days until the Chicago Bears September 7th season opener against the Buffalo Bills.

63 more days. Roughly 2 months. Yeah Booyyyzzz!

I never say that. “He never says that.” (What About Bob)

Bears most stable O-line guy since Kreutz left, #63, Roberto Garza. Not a huge fan. Is he a team leader? Yes. Was he better at guard than at center? Yes. Was the O-line starving for new leadership after the departure of Olin Kreutz? Yes.

When I heard about my assignment for Garza, I shook my head. My wife said, “You don’t like him very much, do you?” I told her no.

It wasn’t always that way…………

Several years ago, I think 2007, They were running TV ads featuring Garza for stepping up in the community by doing volunteer work. I called a number, they gave me another number. I ended up doing volunteer work for 5 years. All because of a Roberto Garza commercial.

Fast forward a few years later and I see our man, Jay Cutler and Garza in an NFL clothing commercial. It’s funny.

The reason I’m not a fan is because he is not that good. The coaches were swapping guys out in our offensive line for years, at no point did anyone recognize Garza as a weak link.

I usually don’t bash Bears, and Garza’s close to the end of his career. The Bears kept him on a short leash with a one-year contract.

Roberto, thank you for your service.

I know that the elderly people I drove to doctor’s appointments appreciate it too.
