Roster Projection

Tillman, Jennings, Fuller, Frey, McManis, Wilson

The top three cornerbacks are set.  In the reserve roles, Kelvin Hayden will look to come back after missing 2013 with injury but I think he might not make the cut.  Meanwhile Isaiah Frey will take the valuable experience that he got last season to take his game to the next level.  Zack Bowman, who did a nice job stepping in for Tillman when he was lost for the season, moved on to the New York Giants via free agency, so there’s an opening in the reserve roles.  Former practice squad members CJ Wilson and Demontre Hurst will look to take a step forward, much like Isaiah Frey did last year.  They’ll need to compete with Sherrick McManis as special teams contributors to earn a roster spot.  Rookies Al Louis-Jean and Derricus Purdy are good candidates for the practice squad.

Final Word

If Peanut can come back healthy and Kyle Fuller can live up to his first round draft selection, the cornerbacks should be in good shape.  Improvements up front should help this group make plays on the ball.  Kyle Fuller’s development is a key to building the defense of the future.
