Adrian Wilson Days Until Chicago Bears Season Opener

We had so much fun doing our Countdown to Kickoff series last season that we decided to do it again.  In case you’re new to the series, we’ll do a roster preview as we count down the days until the Chicago Bears September 7th season opener against the Buffalo Bills.

On July 23rd, the Bears signed the five time pro bowler to a one year deal. Adrian is now 34 and coming off a Achilles heel injury that caused him to miss the entire 2013 seasons for the New England Patriots.  The former third round pick out of North Carolina State has had a highly successful career. Along with his numerous Pro Bowl selections, he has been awarded the All Pro status three times. Holds the NFL record for single season sacks by a defensive back at eight. Wilson is also a member of the 25 Interceptions/25 Sack Club.

The signing of Wilson is a low risk high reward opportunity for the Bears. If he has recovered fully from an injury that many see as a career ending, he will bring a tremendous amount of experience and winning attitude to what is still considered the weakest area of the Bears defense.  Can he start if he is recovered?  At best maybe.  All through the OTA’s, the Bears have been running Ryan Mundy and Brock Vereen and the reports have been highly positive.  Unless something happens at training camp, the best Wilson provides is a solid back and rotates in under certain packages.  It can also be assumed he will mentor Vereen through the season if he makes the squad.
