We had so much fun doing our Countdown to Kickoff series last season that we decided to do it again. In case you’re new to the series, we’ll do a roster preview as we count down the days until the Chicago Bears September 7th season opener against the Buffalo Bills.
Rookie CB Al Louis-Jean was not drafted in 2014, but was signed by the Bears as an undrafted free-agent. The former Boston College defensive back will be wearing #39 for our beloved, indicating 39 days until the Chicago Bears season opener.

Coming out of high school into college, Louis-Jean was one of the most sought after defensive backs in the country and was already deemed a “future shut down corner.” Unfortunately, he never lived up to the potential in college due to many injuries and run-ins with the coaching staff. He missed the entire 2012 season with a foot injury and was suspended for 2 games last year for “unspecified violation of team rules.” Louis-Jean played in only 23 games in 3 seasons for Boston College with 36 tackles, an interception, 4 pass breakups and 2 forced fumbles. He’s going to have to show a little more than that if he wants to make it at the next level.
With 2 years left of eligibility, Louis-Jean decided to forgo the remainder of his college career and accept an invitation to Bears rookie camp last month on a tryout basis. Coach Trestman must have liked what he saw as he was signed to a 3-year rookie contract. With cornerback looking to be a pretty strong group this year for the Bears, it’s a long shot that Louis-Jean makes the team and sees the field during the regular season for the Bears. With Charles Tillman, Tim Jennings, Kyle Fuller and Kelvin Hayden all looking to be locks, Louis-Jean’s primary competition will be Isiah Frey, Sherrick McManis, Demontre Hurst and CJ Wilson. Even though the Bears do not appear to be too high on Frey, for good reason, McManis and Wilson showed at times to be good contributors on special teams last season. Personally, I think that the Bears keep 7 corners, with Hurst and Louis-Jean on the outside looking in.
