Matt Forte Days Until Chicago Bears Season Opener

We had so much fun doing our Countdown to Kickoff series last season that we decided to do it again.  In case you’re new to the series, we’ll do a roster preview as we count down the days until the Chicago Bears September 7th season opener against the Buffalo Bills.

Just 22 days. That’s all that separates the Chicago Bears from their season opener matchup against the Buffalo Bills on September 7. The number 22 also represents one of the most important Bears players, who will be absolutely crucial to the team’s success this season — Matt Forte.

Forte has been, undoubtedly, one of the best draft picks and overall players the Bears have had in recent history.  A former second-round pick, Forte quickly ascended to the top of the depth chart and established himself as a dual-threat out of the backfield. He’s proven the ability to be an effective runner, but has been equally dangerous as a pass catcher.  Forte has accumulated an

incredible 6,666 rushing yards so far in his career along with 2,919 receiving yards. Assuming he stays healthy this season, Forte will eclipse 10,000 total yards from scrimmage for his career, placing him in elite company.

Forte is entering his seventh season as a Bear and remains in the prime of his career. At 28 years old, Forte will need to continue to take advantage of being on the right side of 30 before hitting what many “experts” believe to be the natural declining age for a running back. With a slew of offensive weapons beside him and a legitimate offensive line in front of him, Forte should continue to enjoy great success in head coach Marc Trestman’s offense.

The sky is the limit for Forte and the Bears this season and in just 22 short days we will get the first glimpse at what the 2014 season holds. Brace yourselves, Bears fans!

Be on the lookout for our Countdown to Kickoff series as we continue to work our way to the season opener on September 7th. We’re 24 days from kickoff.  Are you ready???
