Playing catch up with a couple of fairly substantial roster moves since the Chicago Bears’ Thursday night 20-19 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Based on some of the post-game comments, it shouldn’t come as a big surprise that tight end and Preseason Week 1 folk hero Zach Miller was placed on injured reserve with a foot injury.

Miller led the Bears in Week 1 of the presason with 6 catches for 68 yards and two TD’s. His emergence was one of the big bright spots from Martellus Bennett’s suspension. If Miller could have filled the second tight end role, it would have given Marc Trestman and the Bears offense a few more options to deploy some more two tight end sets and could have softened the blow of losing #3 wide receiver Marquess Wilson for several weeks with a shoulder injury.
Miller has been plagued by injuries the last few seasons, so here’s to hoping he can bounce back and get healthy for a chance to compete for a roster spot in 2014. To fill his roster spot, the Bears signed undrafted free agent wide receiver Kofi Hughes out of Indiana University to the roster. Hughes spent time with the Redskins and Texans during the offseason.
