We had so much fun doing our Countdown to Kickoff series last season that we decided to do it again. In case you’re new to the series, we’ll do a roster preview as we count down the days until the Chicago Bears September 7th season opener against the Buffalo Bills.
Nineteen days until kickoff! By that time, will Josh Morgan have earned himself the #3 receiver position? Given the competition level, I wouldn’t put it past him.
Josh Morgan was the 49ers 6th round pick out of Virginia Tech in 2008. Throughout his six years in the league, he has been a decent contributor to the San Francisco and Washington offenses. He’s gained over 500 yards and caught over 45 passes in three of his six years, which isn’t exceptional but also would not be bad for a number three guy behind the best receiving duo in the NFL. I expect Morgan to be the third or fourth receiver on the team, catching somewhere around 40 passes for 400-500 yards. He had three catches on three targets against the Jaguars for 41 yards, so that’s a good sign.
