We had so much fun doing our Countdown to Kickoff series last season that we decided to do it again. In case you’re new to the series, we’ll do a roster preview as we count down the days until the Chicago Bears September 7th season opener against the Buffalo Bills.
It’s hard to believe we’re only 12 days away from kickoff, but here we are and that brings our countdown to rookie quarterback David Fales.
Prior to being selected by the Bears in the 6th round of the 2014 NFL Draft, David Fales had an extremely prolific career at San Jose State. Despite only playing 2 years for the Spartans, he put up 8,382 passing yards and a whopping 66 passing touchdowns all while only throwing 22 interceptions. During his senior season in 2013, Fales’ most memorable game came on November 29 when he led his squad to victory in a 62-52 barn-burner over future 2nd round draft pick Derek Carr and the then 16th ranked Fresno State Bulldogs. Fales threw for a school record 547 yards and a career high 6 touchdowns during that game.
I like what I saw from Fales in the preseason opener. He made some rookie mistakes, but showed a stronger arm than I expected. With recent news coming out that he will play the entire 4th preseason contest against the Cleveland Browns, I’m excited to see what he can do with extended playing time and a couple more weeks of Trestman training. What do you guys think? Will he be good enough to make the 53 man roster, or will he be relegated to the practice squad?
Be on the lookout for our Countdown to Kickoff series as we continue to work our way to the season opener on September 7th. We’re 12 days from kickoff. Are you ready???
