Chicago Bears Suffering from Paralysis of Analysis

The Bears won’t name captains for the season

This one doesn’t trouble me as much as the safety situation, but it’s another sign of indecision.  On Friday, Marc Trestman announced that the Bears won’t name five season-long captains, but instead will name captains weekly.  What’ the matter Marc?  Can’t make a decision?  Still going through the analytics of performance vs captaincy?

This is a simple decision.  You need five captains for the season?  Cutler and Garza represent the offense, Briggs and Tillman represent the defense and Robbie Gould is your special teams captain.  Is that so hard?  Just make a decision!  These are professional athletes.  Do we need to make sure no one’s feelings get hurt?  Does everyone need to get a participation medal?

I love what the new administration has done with the offense and generally, I’ve been pleased with Phil Emery’s personnel moves, but this indecisiveness is killing me.  In an ultra-competitive league where the difference between making the postseason and sitting home in January could be one play (I’m talking to you Chris Conte!), can the Bears really afford to be so indecisive?  Can they afford to be paralyzed by the analysis?

BEAR DOWN!!!
