This season I will give out a weekly game ball to the player or players that stood out during the most recent game. The game ball will be given win or lose.

Drum roll…. And the game ball goes to…Mr. Reliable, Matt Forte.

It’s hard to give a game ball on a day where the Bears pretty much gave away the game by continuing to shoot themselves in the foot with miscues and mental errors. However, even in ugly losses there can still be a bright spot and glimmer of hope created by a player who played with heart and refused to give up. For this reason the week 1 Game Ball goes to Matt Forte.

In a game where the Bears were plagued by turnovers, which included a rare fumble by Brandon Marshall and two Jay Cutler interceptions, the consistent player was Forte. Forte had to take on the workload and makeup for mistakes made by others around him.

More from Chicago Bears News

He brought about a challenge to the Bills defense that had otherwise been very successful against the Bears offense. Forte showcased his superb running capabilities and his ability to be a big receiving threat. His numbers were solid; he had 17 rushing attempts resulting in 82 yards and an average of 4.8 yards per carry. As if the running game wasn’t enough, he was the Bears leading receiver as well with 8 receptions, 87 yards total and an average of 10.9 yards per catch.

He continues to be a constant difference maker. He is Cutler’s security blanket when, things get a little shaky. Forte is often overlooked and underrated, when the leagues best running backs are listed. However, on Sunday he proved yet again why he is one of the best in the game and deserving of all the accolades given to others in his skill position.
