Roberto Garza and Matt Slauson Suffer High Ankle Sprains

The Chicago Bears were one of only three teams that had their entire offensive line start all 16 games in 2013.  That luck ran out mid-afternoon on Sunday as both starting center Roberto Garza and left guard Matt Slauson suffered injuries.  The Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs is reporting that both suffered high ankle sprains:

"The Bears could be without center Roberto Garza and left guard Matt Slauson for a couple of weeks because they suffered high ankle sprains in the first half of Sunday’s 23-20 overtime defeat."

The Bears offensive line held their own against a pretty tough Buffalo Bills offensive line.  Jay Cutler had adequate protection most of the game with Michael Ola filling in for Slauson while Brian de la Puente took Garza’s spot at center.  They were the only two reserve offensive linemen to dress on Sunday.  The Bears have Charles Jeno Jr on the 53 who was inactive on Sunday and center Taylor Boggs and rookie guard Ryan Groy on the practice squad.

A familiar face was in for a visit at Halas Hall on Monday as Eben Britton, one of the surprise final cuts, worked out for the Bears.

Britton suffered a hamstring injury early in camp and never got on enough tape to make the roster.  He would offer another solid backup as Garza and Slauson recover from their injuries.  High ankle sprains could keep them out at least a couple of weeks and if you’re Derrick Rose, it could cost you the season.
