Sit’em

QB

Jay Cutler @SF (46%, 17) – Despite some dumb mistakes (2 INT) Cutler put up a solid stat line (349 yards, 2 TD) against a good Buffalo defense, but starting Cutler in a road match-up vs the Niners D doesn’t seem like a great idea to me. There are probably guys on your waiver wire that I would rather start (Locker, Palmer, Wilson) than Cutler this week. I really hope I am wrong!

Robert Griffen III JAX (42%, 19) – Looked bad last year, looked bad in the preseason, looked bad in week 1… I will need to see some improvement before I risk putting RG3 in my starting lineup.

Philip Rivers SEA (18%, 16) – Could former Chargers OC Ken Whisenhunt have had more to do with Rivers resurgence last year than most people thought? Maybe it was just an off-day against a pretty good defense, but it won’t get any easier this week against the Seahawks.  There are safer options out there, I am actually starting Whisenhunt’s new protege Jake Locker over Rivers in one league that I have them both.

Doug Martin STL. (67%, 13) – The Rams got smoked by the Vikings in week 1 (34-6) and just lost all-pro DE Chris Long for 8-10 weeks, so they may seem vulnerable, but they also held all-world RB Adrian Peterson to just 75 yards on 3.6 ypc. Adrian Peterson is infinitely more talented than Doug Martin and the Vikings O-line is way better as well. If Martin plays, I don’t see him doing anything the Rams still formidable front seven.

Reggie Bush @CAR (65%, 11 ) – Bush did most of his damage on outside runs and passes in the flat, then made the Giants LBs look awkward and slow. That’s because the Giants LBs are awkward and slow (compared to other NFL LBs, not me or normal humans). The Panthers have one of the fastest most athletic LB groups in the league, especially weak-side OLB Thomas Davis who will be shadowing Bush. I think Bush disappears in this one.

Ryan Matthews SEA (64%, 10 ) – Did you see what they did to Eddie Lacy in week 1? Seattle’s defense looks even better than it did last year and I don’t think Ryan Matthews stands much of a chance. Take away Matthews 20-yard run against Arizona’s seriously depleted defense and he averaged 2.7 ypc. If you have a better option use it.

Trent Richardson @PHI (22%, 10) – I think I’ve been right about T-Rich under performing his Yahoo projected point total for about 17 weeks in a row or every week since I started writing this column. I’m not sure why Yahoo keeps projecting him to have 10+ points every week…
