Week number two of the NFL season is already upon us. I usually like Sunday night games, but this week, not so much. After a lack luster start of the season, I much rather watch Boardwalk Empire than watch my favorite football team. I know that we are not supposed to panic as fans after a week 1 loss. It’s only week 1 right? Yeah, but a loss to a team you are supposed to beat doesn’t feel right. Any given Sunday is only a movie folks. The Bears should have beat the Bills at home last Sunday plain and simple. But, it didn’t happen. Why? Was it injuries? Was it game plan? Coaching decisions? Quarterback play? All of the above? You tell me. All I know is that we better see better linebacker play this Sunday if we are going to have any remote chance of keeping up with the 49ers. Oh yeah, that is why we are here. This week I got to talk some smack with the guys over at Niner Noise for our weekly session of “Talking Smack”.
Before we begin, can you guys tell our readers a little something about yourselves?

I’ve been a die hard 49er fan since 1989, and I can recall how each season ended for the 49ers since 1983, that’s how much I love this team. You can argue about who the best franchise is in football, but nobody can ever say without debate, that they had the best QB and WR in NFL history. These Harbaugh 49ers are a throwback to the 90’s Cowboys, and they will eventually win a Super Bowl. My name is Doug, co-editor of NinerNoise alongside Orly Jr., and I am a life-long 49er fan. Since before I can remember I was wearing Steve Young and Jerry Rice jerseys, despite growing up in Indiana with my father a devout Bengals fan and my older brother a loyal follower of the Packers. Something about the red and gold just stuck, be it with Young, Garcia, Rattay, Smith, Hill, or Kaepernick under center. Despite a rough offseason, both on and off the field, the 49ers have shown hope for the season ahead and I believe they can fulfill their potential."

Man, this week I am getting double teamed. Now I know how Jared Allen must feel. Orly Jr., you say you can’t debate who the greatest QB and Wide Receiver combo is in NFL history, but you two might already be debating. Is it Young and Rice or Montana and Rice? You guys can go and debate amongst yourselves. All I have to cling on here is 1985 and arguably the best defense in NFL history. Da Bears! Sadly enough, even though it was only wacky week 1, the Bears are not even close to being a good defense. How well do you feel the 49ers defense will be without having Aldon Smith for the 2nd week in a row? Do the 49ers have any other injuries or suspensions that might help the Bears offense succeed on Sunday?
"Jared Allen still gets double teamed? Lol. Montana-Rice is the greatest WR/QB combo, and that’s because they only played six years together. The 49ers Defense will be fine, they were built for depth, meaning that if they lose somebody, they’ve got a player or players that are very capable to taking over. Aldon out, Corey Lemonier and Dan Skuta in. Both starting CBs out, Dontae Johnson and Perrish Cox fill the void, against a very good Cowboys passing game. As far as injuries, it’s all on their starting CBs, if they can’t go, then Dontae and Perrish are starting and look for Chris Cook (ex-Viking) to get called up (healthy scratch last week). Mandatory Credit: Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports Against some lines Allen may still command two O-lineman, but not too often in San Fran. I’d have to agree on Montana-Rice as well. Young had bigger numbers, but played longer with Rice and later in the progression to a pass-first NFL game. The 49ers D will not be as weak in the linebacking corps as many like to think. Dan Skuta and Michael Wilhoite are both solid players replacing Aldon Smith and Navarro Bowman, respectively. Though the 49ers pass rush is not the same as it was with Smith around, it is not poor. The biggest issue will be the beat-up secondary against Alshon Jeffery and Brandon Marshall. But if Cutler plays like he did last week, I am not too worried. This, however, would be the battle watch on this side of the ball. Remember last year the 49ers played 5 games without Aldon Smith. They went 5-0. How about Da Bears? After some hype in the offseason and a healthy Jay Cutler to start the year, they lost a heartbreaker at home to the Buffa-lowly Bills. How will this affect them mentally? Will Cutler ever fulfill the potential he so obviously has, or are there other problems that need dire addressing?"
