The Bears are now 1-0 in the new Levi’s Stadium after dropping eight straight at Candlestick since 1985. It was a team win, with both the offense and defense contributing big to the win. Last week, after the Bears dropped their home opener to the Buffalo Bills, the theme was not finishing. Not finishing drives, not finishing plays. This week, was the opposite.
The Bears finished drives, going 4 for 4 in the red zone and scoring touchdowns on all of those possessions. Jay Cutler had one of the best road games in a Bears uniform in terms of quarterback rating, finishing with a 119 QB rating. Pretty impressive stuff when you consider his top wide receivers were hobbled with bum wheels. The stat line wasn’t that impressive, only going 23 for 34 for 176 yards, but the most important stats are the 4 TD’s and ZERO interceptions.
Cutler did all of this without the benefit of a running game. In fact, he led the team with 27 rushing yards on three runs. Matt Forte had a rough night at the office, only gaining 21 yards on 12 carries and adding 5 catches for 15 yards through the air. Brandon Marshall shook off an ankle injury and had a tremendous game. He only had 5 catches for 48 yards, but he had three touchdowns, including a highlight reel one-handed catch.
